The anatomy of a book

1 COVER Material or Printed
A cover can be a printed page or one of the pre-pigmented materials from our range. Covers are glued onto the cover boards and wrap around and under the end sheets for a tidy finish.
2 COVER BOARD
The cover boards are never seen, but they give the book structure and help it hold its shape. It is possible to add foam padding for a softer feeling cover.
3 END SHEETS (front and back)
These sheets help keep the book looking neat and tidy. Our standard colours are white or black on an uncoated paper, but we can also print your artwork on the end sheets to make the book completely yours.
4 BRANDED INSERTS
These are optional printed extras (your artwork) and can be inserted at the beginning or end of the book or between or around sections of the book block. While typically a double leaf (or 4 page faces) it is also possible to “tip in” as a single leaf (2 page faces).
5 BOOK BLOCK, Diary, Notebook, Appointment Book
This is the block of pages (in thread sewn sections) that make up the inside pages of your book. We have our own diary and notebook block artwork which we print in house in a range of book sizes.
6 RIBBON/MARKER
A sewn in ribbon. Useful as a place marker that is always with the book.
7 ELASTIC CLOSURE BAND
These optional closure bands are available in a range of colours and either 8 or 13mm thicknesses. Pen loops can also be added using the same materials. You can have a pen loop without a closure band.
